Three "Never" Fundamentals of Being a Powerful Sales Person

There’s much debate about whether a salesperson is built or born. In a study conducted by the Harvard business review shows us that, sales people are born rather than created.

Personally, I believe different. I believe that an effective salesperson is created through his or her choice. The road will be difficult but here are the best tips I can give you to help you get there.

1. Never Be Afraid to Fail

One of the biggest mistakes that can be made by a new or experienced sales people is the fact that they are not willing to fail.

Failing is tough for a salesperson because through handling constant rejection you have to create a glimmer of hope for yourself. Often salespeople overstep the amount of hope that they put into the potential sale and when it doesn't come through, they feel deflated.

Going through 100’s of leads, either through cold calling or from selling door to door, (yes it even happens in Dubai) can be exhausting and sales people more often than not look at the sale as their glimmer of hope to give them the confidence to keep going.

So what happens when that glimmer of hope doesn't come through?bIt’s here where most people stop. It’s here that most people call it quits and decide that there's no point moving forward.bIn my eyes failing only marks the beginning of any given activity, because in truth it's not a failure, it's only your first hurdle…

I have seen that the best sales people don’t see any encounter as a failure, in fact, they see them as their first hurdle or learning experiences.

“If Howard Shultz gave up after being turned down by banks 242 times, there would be no Starbucks” Neil Patel.

Some of the best sales come only after many rejections, in fact some of the most loyal customers come in this way because they see that your not just another sales person, instead you will show your prospect or potential client that you care about their business and when you show another person that their not just another prospect and that their not just another mark on the scoreboard, that is when things will begin to fall into place.

2. Never Stop Learning

The greatest salespeople are constantly learning. Whether that be about how to speak to people in a different manner, or how to dress more effectively or even how to think in a more positive way.

They learn these things at seminars, through books and even, by meditating. If you feel that you're not absorbing the information at seminars and training programs you must learn how to learn. Learning to learn can be easy if you have a schedule. set a time for yourself and stick to it.

With time, you will be able to increase the amount of time you spend reading and learning. This can take weeks or it could take months. Rome wasn't built in a day so if you're committed to this then you will get to a point when you can read and learn for as long as you want to rather than how long your concentration or your focus allows you to.

Once you have done this, a whole wealth of knowledge opens up. You can then read great books like Robert Caldini’s Influence: Psychology of Persuasion, or 7 habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen Covey and Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill.

Books and seminars will give you the knowledge of people who have gone out, experimented, failed, learned from their mistakes and then succeeded.

If attending seminars seem like a costly affair then books are the best way to learn new skills, habits, and mindsets. If you don't know what book to buy, check out any of the blogs below.
Now you have no excuse left but to tackle your new journey of learning head on and with passion. The knowledge that experienced people have is priceless when it comes to being a sales person.

3. Never Give Up

The most difficult part of being a sales person is a continued belief in optimism.

“He who says he can and he who says he can’t are both usually right” Confucius.

If you believe that you will be able to, make one more phone call then you will. If you believe that you will be able to make one more sale for the month then you will.

However if you tell yourself that you've hit the “wall” and can't work past 4 o clock then you won’t. If you believe that you can't close the at the sales meeting that you're going to then the probability is that you won't close that as well.

Once you get this belief into your system that you can have your future take any shape that you choose then you will be able to make sales, create wealth or even start and grow your own company.

By far the most important skill of all is to believe that you can keep pushing no matter how high the odds are stacked up against you.

When you develop the ability to, push past all the points where you feel tired or burned out, then failure will no longer apply to you. This is because you will keep going until you succeed.

In conclusion. Always be ready for a learning experience, when you stop viewing the world as wins and losses you will begin viewing things as learning experiences when that happens you will be able to move your sales at a faster pace by learning from each encounter and getting you closer to the sale.

If all this seems scary, I have one piece suggestion for you "Feel The Fear And Do It Anyway®"

Pain of Rejection

In recent years I have learnt and been taught that "rejection is a divine redirection, towards something beautiful beyond my imagination"Is this really the truth or a fantasy conjured up to make one feel happy and sane.

For many of us know that rejection after rejection has a great blow to our confidence. We feel the devastation deep within ourselves. The feeling of lack drowns us and we are unable to comprehend the so called divine plan that is unfolding for us.

In that moment of rejection and beyond that moment nothing makes sense. Our emotions override so called common sense. We are engulfed in the thick layer of misery and self pity.

No matter how painful the experience someone tells us that we are where we are meant to be. We are told to have that trust and leap of faith in the universe that everything is just fine.

The Greatest Fear Is To Be Alone

“You cannot be lonely if you like the person you’re alone with.” ~ Wayne Dyer

It is a sad state of affair that humankind has issues with being alone, it easily can be our greatest fear. We long to be with others, some say we are social animals or have we learned to cage ourselves within this belief.

Many of us are filled with terror and are deeply afraid of our own company. Being alone with yourself for many is grim and intimidating that we occupy ourselves with our work, business, hobbies, laptops, mobiles, social media, partner, friends, family and much more. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this but our so called elders forgot to teach us the importance of being alone.

Being alone in our silence is where some say we can truly find that peace we seek, as that is when we truly empathetically listen to the unsaid words and feelings that is us. For even we know all of this but knowing is not being. And the wiseman is the one who lives a life of being rather than just knowing.

We all can take that step to awaken ourself and learn to be alone. It is not about being lonely but about knowing oneself, who you truly are and heal your darkness so that you can let the light shine. For all the trash in your mind needs to be taken out. Only then you experience that no moment is ordinary but truly totally unique and divine.

Like many of you out there, I too am overcoming this fear of being alone. Let go of the control for nothing is under our control.

“There is a time for being ahead, a time for being behind; a time for being in motion, a time for being at rest; a time for being vigorous, a time for being exhausted; a time for being safe, a time for being in danger. The Master sees things as they are, without trying to control them. She lets them go their own way, and resides at the centre of the circle.” ~ Lao Tzu, Tao Te Ching

You're More Than Just A Chef - Part 1 - Feel the Fear & Do It Anyway®

Over the past three months I have watched a number of chef-based movies. Thisincludes Disney and Pixar’s hilarious animation ‘Ratatouille’, ‘Chef’ staring Jon Favreau and the much appreciated ‘From Bombay to Paris: The Hundred-Foot Journey’ supported by the cast of Hellen Miller and Om Puri.

The core focus of these movies has been about the passion for cooking, to live your dream and being inspired from within to make a difference. In the world of culinary delights there must be heroes or inspirational individuals who have done what Manny Pacquiao has done for boxers around the world and whole a nation, Mary Kom has done for women boxers, Richard Branson has done for entrepreneurs and Anthony Robbins for public speakers.

The Cruelty of "Ruthless Compassion"

You may have heard the phrase of "Ruthless Compassion". Some love and live by it .
Then there are some who find it an extremely strange phrase as the two words are poles apart.

When you start reviewing the word ruthless you discover it means:
  • Having no compassion or pity; merciless
  • Feeling or showing no mercy; hardhearted
  • Without compassion; cruel; merciless.
  • Heartless, mean, barbaric, or brutal
  • Someone who is ruthless is very harsh or determined, and will do anything that is necessary to achieve their aim
Look at the word compassion and it means:

  • Is the emotion that one feels in response to the suffering of others that inspires a desire to help
  • Deep awareness of the suffering of another coupled with the wish to relieve it
  • feeling of distress for the suffering or misfortune of another, often including the desire to alleviate it
  • To recognise the suffering of others, then take action to help
"Ruthless Compassion" is a phrase regularly used in the business world and for some in their personal life. It is it sad to see how so called business leaders show their cruel actions by hiding behind such a phrase. It is these toxic individuals who may truly prove fatal to others, the organisation and to their own life.

Compassion is not about having pity on others. It has nothing to do with being nice and feeling sorry for others. It never means to be disrespect to yourself or be a yes person to the needs and wants of others. In simple terms it is about being loving, empowering, tolerant and forgiving. It is about being respectful to yourself and others without the ego and judgement.

For the users of "Ruthless Compassion" please listen and see the Ted Talk by Daniel Goleman, author of Emotional Intelligence, "
Why aren't we more compassionate?".

Damaged By Limiting Beliefs

One of the worst things that could happen to you is having a negative state of mind, a state of mind drowning in struggle, worry, fear and poverty.
It is extremely unfortunate that the education system has not thought you on how to manage your emotional state. It focuses on confining you into a box. You become robots to the current system of how the world operates. In such a controlled regime you have lost your creativity and your true essence of being human.
From the moment you are born you are sowed with seeds of limiting beliefs. Our parents, society, media, government and others so called caretakers at a tender age instill you with extreme limiting beliefs. There are some of you who are fortunate enough to have caretakers who have sowed the beliefs of creative, prosperity and joy.
These limiting beliefs sabotage your existence especially when you come into adulthood. In adulthood you are told to deal with it and resolve it. For so many years you have been following limiting beliefs and now you are asked to deal with it!!! This is completely crazy, so much damage has been done and now you are left to just deal with it!!!
Yes, you would like to resolve it and you start looking for answers in subjects such as Reiki, NLP, Hypnosis, Meditation, EFT and much more. None of them have a lasting effect as your monkey mind jumps from one tree to another. It finds it difficult to settle in one place. The agonising chitchat in the mind makes matters worse.
Your limiting beliefs create havoc for you and on an ongoing basis without deliberate intention your inner child repeats the same damaging mistakes again and again.
So, a few questions ponder into the mind, these being:
  • What is the solution to this?
  • How can our children be saved from this damage?
  • For us adults, what could be done to save us from such misery?
Maybe someone has the answer and if so, please share it with the rest of us.

Stop Fighting The Thought

It may surprise you that nowhere in the Bible are we told to ‘resist temptation’. Instead, we
are advised to refocus our attention because resisting a thought never works.

It only intensifies our focus on the wrong thing and strengthens its allure. You are unable to defeat temptation by fighting the feeling of it.

The more you fight a feeling, the more it consumes and controls you. You strengthen it every time you think it.

Since temptation always begins with a thought, the quickest way to neutralize its allure is to turn your attention to something else.

Stop fighting the thought, just change the channel of your mind and get interested in another idea.

Thank you The Purpose Driven Life for this extraction of work and critical awareness to move in life.

Sufferings Of My Own Creation

Meher Baba
There are very few things in the mind which eat up as much energy as worry. It is one of the most difficult things not to worry about anything.

Worry is experienced when things go wrong, but in relation to past happenings it is idle merely to wish that they might have been otherwise. The frozen past is what it is, and no amount of worrying is going to make it other than what it has been.

But the limited ego-mind identifies itself with its past, gets entangled with it and keeps alive the pangs of frustrated desires. Thus worry continues to grow into the mental life of man until the ego-mind is burdened by the past.

Worry is also experienced in relation to the future when this future is expected to be disagreeable in some way. In this case it seeks to justify itself as a necessary part of the attempt to prepare for coping with the anticipated situations.

But, things can never be helped merely by worrying.
Besides, many of the things which are anticipated never turn up, or if they do occur, they turn out to be much more acceptable than they were expected to be.

Worry is the product of feverish imagination working under the stimulus of desires. It is a living through of sufferings which are mostly our own creation.

Worry has never done anyone any good, and it is very much worse than mere dissipation of psychic energy, for it substantially curtails the joy and fullness of life.”

Pass Through Your Fears

“Train yourself to let go of everything you fear to lose.”

The above is a quote of  Master Yoda from Star Wars. He may have been a fictional character but the words he uttered are what we read in the great books from across the world.

Our fear can be our greatest enemy or when we befriend it we can use it to redirect our path for our good.  We have to learn to manage this emotional state for the good of ourselves and others.

Once again in the above quote, Master Yoda, in his simple language teaches us the danger of walking on the path of fear and not learning befriend this emotional state is disastrous.

We all know the dangers of allowing fear to control our life. Most people have experienced and many are still living in fear believing that this is the true reality.

Learn to accept your fear in order to pass through them. Click here to contact In Learning to attend a workshop on "Feel The Fear And Do It Anyway®.
